WHAT WE DO

Leaders are created not born.  You don't squeeze a lemon and expect orange juice to come out. Nobody brought something into this world, we are only a product of our environment. Everything we know was only fed into our minds, and we acquire them as we progress.   The young tends to copy what they see. If we feed them the right  prinicples  early on, we can expect to reap a good harvest in the future.  Thus, leadership is a life-long education and training.

At CYLD, we ensure that the youth get a clear and steady grasp of what true leadership is all about. A true leader must be a servant first in his heart.

Youth Servant Leadership
Youth & Civic Engagement

As new generations of Filipinos are born in this new and modern society, fewer parents  capitalize on handing over the richness of our culture to their offsprings. Most of the distinct characteristics we Filipinos are known for are slowly being erased and can no longer be seen among the youth.    We believe that some values remain the same, regardless of stature in life.  Things like being respectful, hospitable, cooperative, and a desire to help uplift the life of a brother.  At CYLD the young are equipped not only at the cognitive level of understanding, but indulging them in various activities promoting our culture that is deeply rooted in the hearts of every Filipino.

Youth Development

Youth development is wide in scope and nature.  One of the reasons the council was created is to contribute to the unity and cooperation among existing Filipino organizations in Italy: the need to put new wine into new wineskins.  The role of CYLD is to focus mainly on the need to develop new breed of youth leaders, while keeping a close watch on the internal and personal issues being experienced by the youth in their respective personal and family affairs.

We deeply support other organizations that deal with personal and total youth development and we look forward in collaborating with them.  We stride along on the momentum of these established Filipino youth groups and hope to infuse the principles of Servant Leadership; stressing its importance in real life applications.

CYLD conducts Financial Literacy training programs and is developing and institutionalizing teams of expert speakers and facilitators to serve other non-government organzations and community associaitons especially those who lack the capability to conduct their own youth-leadership training programs.  Our doors are also open to collaborate with other mature organizations that agree with our prinicples and advocacy.

Nowhere is the subject of youth-adult relationship more important than in the confines of the home of an OFW.  The Filipino culture dictates;  the father is the pillar of the house and the mother is the light of the home.   Take away the father and the house becomes feeble and weak, take away the mother and darkness befalls the home.

The good thing in Europe compared to Middle-east & Asian migrations, Filipino families reunite in Italy much earlier.  But long period of absence from each other's presence (parents & children) need to be redeemed urgently.  Sadly, more families succumb to the chasing of material abundance and tend to neglect the care for their young if not undone.   Though focused on leadership principles, CYLD training modules & activities incorporate this important aspect of OFW migrant family life into their training modules and workshops.
